The Blue Highway

The Blue Highway is a vision for a clean, safe, environmentally-friendly coastal transit system along the Southern California coastline, eventually stretching from Long Beach to Santa Barbara. The Pier to Pier initiative is a locally-led private-public partnership to establish water ferry service along this route, starting with a boat (CARB-compliant CA-licensed operated catamaran) running from Malibu Pier to Santa Monica Pier to Marina Del Rey (LAX) and then down to San Pedro and Long Beach. This vision requires a strong, broad public-private coalition, all of whom understand the significance of the moment, not only to improve emergency evacuation transportation options for local communities, but to enhance our regional transportation system in time for the 2026 World Cup, the 2027 Super Bowl, and the 2028 LA Olympics.
